Slices of Berlin

CEC.W

The danish band Kashmir will have their new album out on February 1st and im so excited! __cec. W.
TAME IMPALA
The sound of their music makes me feel good – kind of the same feeling I get when listening to The Doors (of cause not comparable!). The Sundown Syndrome song is also quite epic. Anyway I love this video with its collage of imaginative objects, the use of watercolor-ish coloring and the mix of media/tools! There are some of the things that led me to think of some Pink Floyd album covers. Wicked. Jeg er vild med TAME IMPALAs lyd plus plus deres video er helt fantastisk. Truly My Kings;
Two weeks ago I attended one of my greatest koncert experinces ever. It was a koncert by the norwegian band Kings Of Convenience. The singer and gituarist, Erlend Øye, got the whole crowd “high” on his funny karisma and stage performance! it was so awesome and im sure everybody left that koncert feeling happy. I seen Erlend live before with his recent band, The Whitest Boy Alive, on Roskilde festival, but that was a much bigger koncert and not as intimate. Anyway, Kings of Convenience just realised a new album after five years of absence! Its called “Declaration of Dependence”. The album is alot like the other two albums they have made, but its just more wonderful. I would describe their music as cozy, delicate and calming summerhouse music.

SHIELE.

I find the Austrian painter Egon Shiele very inspiring. Sexuality burns through most of his paintings and without sounding kinky I think they are beautiful and very interesting. Shiele would probably fit nicely with some smooth jazz and some cocktails, but he always makes me think of something dark and fragile. Its kind of like a Joy Division song. Listening to the songs makes you feel careless and self-destructive, but at the same time awesome and life-wondering.

RAINBOWARRIOS.
About a week ago I saw CocoRosie live in Christiania, and im not over the koncert yet. I am still in the high and surreal mood I was when I was standing in the crowd floading away in the beautiful music. CocoRosie truly are like no other. If someone dont know them CocoRosie is an American duo formed by sisters Bianca Leilani “Coco” and Sierra Rose “Rosie” Casady.

Sierra mainly plays the guitar, piano and harp, and contributes vocals. Bianca sings and manipulates various children’s toys/electronic & instruments as well as other exotic noisemakers. The Music genre is a mix of dreamy opera and experimental electronic, every song is like a kinky fairytale. I would almost say either you love it or you hate it because its very special and freaky, I love the very experimental indie genre. Their attitude and style is a mix of random stuff they pick up the places they play their koncerts, spandex, weeks, sneakers and grafik t-shirts.

Balcony Smoker

“NO, Love aint just a four letter word! let me put it like this, let me tell you… You feel it in your chest and in your arms, your feel it in your legs and in your heart. While word is what your find in newspapers. Have you ever read the newspapers, baby?… you know, you can wipe your ass with’em, or stuff your shoes or make a roof!”
(part of the Jenny Wilson song “Love aint just a four letter word”)
Jenny Wilson is a swedish sing-a-song writer, and I think she is one of my very favourite artists. Her music has a distinct, electro influenced style and a indie 80′s flow. I love it. Her first solo record “Love and youth” is like an ironic picture of the youth and all the the problems you run into when you are a teenager. But its not made in a corny way, its fun and very ironic. Her second album is called “Hardships” and is a very great mix of crooked and eksperimenting indie soul. It contains themes like motherhood and is a more mature record. She still uses the irony and sing about awkward situations and randoms thoughts. She used to be a part of the band “First Floor Power”, but went solo in 2004. Last month I saw her live in Copenhagen and she is wonderful live, with her controlled voice and 80′s style. Now I am just looking forward to see her on Roskilde Festival.

“Posters from Teenage Magazines. Closed the door, you locked it with a key. The Pictures would keep you company at night. Handsome strangers to hold on tight” (“A hesitating Cloud of Despair” from the record “Love and Youth”)

The Good Ones
I have known the band The Kills for a long time, but right now im kind of discovering them again. I love the kick-ass-get-stoned-punk attitude and the indie-rock sound. The record “No Wow” is my favourite right now, with songs like “The Good Ones” “At The Back Off The Shell” and “Rodeo Town”. I would love to see them live, maybe they come by Copenhagen one day, I hope so.
